FPV Pilot Training Programmes

Hands-on FPV pilot training from first flights through to tactical operations, delivered by experienced instructors using our own training and operational platforms.
Whether you’re training a single pilot or building a complete team capability, our programmes follow a structured progression designed to develop skills progressively and prepare pilots for the platforms and missions they will actually operate.
Beginner to Advanced · Hands-on Training · Tactical Operations
Who This Is For
- Individuals learning FPV from scratch or progressing towards advanced operational flying
- Police and security teams developing pilots for search, surveillance and tactical support
- Defence and government organisations building or expanding an in-house FPV capability
- Organisations standardising on a platform requiring pilots trained on the equipment they will operate
What’s Included
- Simulator training: developing core stick control, orientation and aircraft handling before progressing to live flight
- Live flight instruction: practical training across 5", 7", 10" and 13" platforms as appropriate to the pilot’s stage
- Progressive skill development: from basic flight fundamentals through to advanced manoeuvres and platform transition
- Tactical operations training: mission-specific scenarios, payload handling and RF-denied operating environments for pilots progressing to operational roles
- Safety protocols: integrated throughout every stage of training
For a detailed breakdown of the progression, see our FPV Pilot Training Pathway.
Training Formats
Individual Training
One-to-one or small-group instruction tailored to the pilot’s existing experience and objectives — from first-time FPV flying through to advanced operational proficiency.
Team & Organisational Training
Cohort-based programmes for police, security, defence and other organisations. Training is built around your operational requirements and, where appropriate, the specific platforms and equipment your team will deploy.
Training pilots together also helps establish consistent standards across the team, rather than relying on varying experience from different backgrounds.
Bespoke & Specialist Programmes
Where a standard training pathway doesn’t fit your requirement, we can build a programme around it.
This could include compressed training timelines, platform-specific instruction, mission-focused training or programmes delivered alongside newly supplied equipment.
Why Train With Us
- We fly what we train on. Our instructors operate the same platforms used throughout our training programmes, giving pilots practical instruction based on real-world experience.
- A staged, proven pathway. Our training structure is built around the same progressive approach we use to develop our own pilots.
- Platform-specific expertise. Training can cover everything from 5" training platforms through to 13" heavy-lift aircraft, including IR/thermal systems and other specialist equipment.
- Training and engineering under one roof. Our instructors work alongside the team designing and manufacturing the aircraft, providing direct knowledge of the platforms being taught.
Getting Started
Training programmes are scoped around your requirements, including the number of pilots, existing experience, target capability, equipment and available training time.

FAQ
Do trainees need prior FPV or drone experience? No. Our pathway starts with simulator training and basic flight fundamentals, allowing complete beginners to progress from the ground up. Experienced pilots can be assessed and placed at the appropriate stage.
How long does FPV training take? It depends on the target capability, existing experience and available training time. Basic proficiency requires less time than advanced or tactical training, which involves additional platforms and mission-specific skills. We therefore scope training programmes individually rather than applying a single fixed duration.
Can training be delivered on a platform we already operate? Yes. Training can be tailored to specific airframes, payload systems, cameras or other equipment your team already operates or is about to receive.
Do you train police and security teams differently from recreational pilots? Yes. The underlying flight progression remains the same, but operational training can incorporate payload handling, mission-specific scenarios, communications considerations and other requirements relevant to the organisation.
Is training available for groups as well as individuals? Yes. We provide individual, small-group and cohort-based training, including bespoke programmes for organisations establishing or expanding an FPV capability.
Firefly UAV delivers hands-on FPV pilot training from beginner through to advanced operational capability, backed by our own in-house drone design, manufacturing and operational experience.
