FPV Dropper System

A servo-driven payload release mechanism built specifically for FPV drones, triggered via AUX switches with custom logic to match your operational requirements.
Designed, manufactured and coded entirely in-house, our dropper systems provide reliable, repeatable payload release while allowing custom triggering behaviour to be built around your requirements.
Servo Driven · FPV Compatible · Custom Logic
What Is It?
The FPV Dropper System is a servo-driven payload release mechanism controlled by the pilot through an AUX channel on a standard FPV transmitter.
When triggered, the servo releases the payload cleanly and consistently. Unlike improvised release mechanisms, the system is designed specifically for repeatable operation and integration with Betaflight, iNav or Ardupilot.
Because we develop the hardware and firmware ourselves, the triggering behaviour isn’t limited to a fixed configuration. Switch sequences, timed delays, multi-stage arming and release logic can all be customised to suit the application.
Key Features
- Servo-driven release: consistent and repeatable payload release
- AUX switch triggering: integrates directly with standard FPV transmitter setups
- Custom triggering logic: behaviour built around your operational sequence
- FPV compatible: designed for integration with standard FPV airframes
- In-house design and code: hardware, manufacturing and firmware developed by Firefly UAV
Typical Use Cases
- Payload delivery: controlled release of equipment or other payloads
- Training environments: safe, repeatable payload release for pilot training
- Custom applications: specialist requirements where an off-the-shelf system isn’t suitable
FPV Dropper vs DJI Dropper
We build payload release systems for both FPV and DJI platforms. The right system depends on your aircraft and how you operate it.
| FPV Dropper System | DJI Dropper System | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | FPV drones | DJI platforms |
| Trigger | AUX switch | On-board under-light trigger |
| Items carried | Totally Custom | 1 or 2 |
| Best for | Tactical FPV missions, custom drop sequences | DJI operators wanting reliable, simple payload release |
For DJI platforms, our DJI Dropper System is purpose-built for that ecosystem and uses the aircraft’s on-board under-light as its trigger.
Why Custom Triggering Logic Matters
Off-the-shelf dropper systems are generally built around a simple trigger: flip a switch and release the payload.
That may be sufficient for basic applications, but more specialised requirements can call for additional control — such as an arming sequence, timed delay or multi-stage release.
Because we develop the firmware ourselves in house, we can build these behaviours into the system rather than requiring you to work around the limitations of a generic unit.
The result is a dropper built around the way you operate, rather than the other way around.
Built for Reliability
Every dropper system follows our in-house development process, from CAD design through to manufacture and testing.
Components are manufactured on-site using carbon fibre and 3D-printed parts, with systems tested before deployment to ensure consistent, repeatable operation.
Our in-house approach also means we can respond quickly to custom requirements and develop variants around specific airframes or applications.
FAQ
What’s the difference between the FPV and DJI Dropper Systems? The FPV Dropper is servo-driven and triggered via an AUX switch on a standard FPV transmitter, with configurable triggering logic. The DJI Dropper is designed specifically for DJI platforms and uses the aircraft’s on-board under-light as its trigger.
Can the triggering logic be customised? Yes. Because we design and code the system in-house, we can develop custom switch sequences, delays, multi-stage arming and release logic to suit your requirements.
Is the dropper suitable for training as well as operational use? Yes. The repeatable release mechanism makes it suitable for training environments as well as operational applications.
Do you offer dropper systems for other drone platforms? Our current systems cover FPV and DJI platforms. If you have another platform or a specific payload-release requirement, get in touch to discuss a custom solution.
Firefly UAV designs, manufactures and codes its dropper systems entirely in-house in the UK, alongside our range of FPV drones and specialist UAV equipment.
